What does a full line and copy-edit include?

Correcting mistakes and ensuring consistency in spelling, grammar, punctuation, hyphenation, capitalisation and syntax.

Formatting document to industry standards, ready for layout.

Ensuring consistency in language usage, character details and timeline.

Smoothing awkward sentences.

Tightening prose for punchier, more impactful writing.

Highlighting and tackling use of crutch words and phrases.

Basic fact-checking of names, places, dates, locations, etc.

Suggestions for improving text on a stylistic and creative level, including tackling overwriting, too much telling, filter words, and ineffective dialogue.

Consistency in point of view and tackling head-hopping or muddled viewpoints.

An in-depth editorial report on your manuscript’s strengths and weaknesses and a comprehensive style sheet.

How much is it?

From £15 per 1,000 words (fee based on minimum of 40,000 words). For example, 70,000 words = £1050.

Can I have a sample first?

I can perform a full line and copy edit on 1,000 words of your choice for £50. If you decide to proceed, the cost will be taken from your full fee.

How long does it take?

This depends entirely on the length of your book and my schedule. I’m unlikely to be able to start straight away as I’m generally booked quite far in advance, but we will work together to find a mutually acceptable timeline. An average-length novel takes around three to four weeks to edit.
